Cirque de Soleil's CORTEO in Sunrise for 12 Shows

I often compare the feeling I get when I watch quality live performances as “my soul floating on puffy joy clouds.”

As someone who grew up on stage as a performer, I have a deep understanding of the hours – the years – of training, rehearsals, repetition, polishing, remembering, and hard work that go into perfecting a talent like dance, acrobatics, playing an instrument or mastering the instrument of your own voice through song. I began dancing flamenco at four years old and continued my dance training into my mind 20s. This is the skill that my first business, GiGi’s Dance Academy, is built on. As a teenager, I was also selected for a singing/dancing group called FRESH (think, NSYNC but with girls and much younger). We performed for Christina Aguilera, on the Disney Channel, and in many other phenomenal stages. I’m familiar with the hard work behind artistry, music and dance.

This is one of the reasons I have always been fascinated by Cirque du Soleil. Fascinated, obsessed, you know what I mean.

They are one of the only companies I have ever seen that combines acrobatics, acting, singing, and live musicians all on one stage, masterfully, each and every time. Each show is its own masterpiece, unlike the rest, and there is so much intricacy and attention to detail that you can watch the same show more than once and notice something new each time.

I literally shrieked with excitement when I found out the CORTEO was coming to Miami. This is one of my favorite shows.

Corteo, which means “cortege” in Italian, is a joyous procession, a festive parade imagined by a clown. The show brings together the passion of the actor with the grace and power of the acrobat to plunge the audience into a theatrical world of fun, comedy and spontaneity situated in a mysterious space between heaven and earth.

The clown pictures his own funeral taking place in a carnival atmosphere, watched over by quietly caring angels. Juxtaposing the large with the small, the ridiculous with the tragic and the magic of perfection with the charm of imperfection, the show highlights the strength and fragility of the clown, as well as his wisdom and kindness, to illustrate the portion of humanity that is within each of us. The music, by turns lyrical and playful, carries Corteo through a timeless celebration in which illusion teases reality.

Corteo is a treat for the soul, for the mind, and for the heart. Corteo will be presented at the Amerant Bank Arena for 12 shows only from July 11th to 21st, 2024. You can get tickets at http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/corteo.

I will be at the 2PM showing tomorrow, Saturday, July 20th. If you see me there, say hello!
